Ingredients
1/2 Cup of currants or raisins
3 Tablespoons sugar
2 1/2 Cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 Cup butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1-Cup buttermilk

Things you will need before you start cooking.
Adult assistant, cooking spray, mixing bowl, measuring cups and spoons, fork for mixing, small bowl for soaking the raisins or currants, pastry cutter, potholder or oven mitts, flat surface for you to work that you can reach comfortably.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray an 8” cake pan with cooking spray.
Put currants or raisins in a small bowl have your assistant pour the boiling water over the currants just to cover. Let currants set 5 minutes then drain the water away and set currants aside. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and sugar. Using pastry cutter, cut in the butter really well until the butter and flour mixture is crumbly and looks like corn meal, add drained currants and buttermilk. Stir with fork. Knead on slightly floured board 8 to 10 times. Shape in ball and put in a greased 8-inch cake pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, reduce heat to 375 degrees and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes. Cool on wire rack
